Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj cursed each other out and stopped production on the set of American Idol on Oct. 2, worrying producers over the future of the judging panel. “I mean we all have our thoughts. I feel like [the feud is] taking away what the quality of what ‘Idol’ is all about. I’m disappointed in Fox for making this seem as a competition. My wife is the strongest, classiest woman I know, so she signed up to help people accomplish their dreams – not the competition,”

Mariah’s husband Nick Cannon told Access Hollywood on Oct. 3. Mariah never wanted Nicki on the show in the first place. In fact, she was hoping to have Lenny Kravitz on board instead. “I mean, I think there’s a lot of stuff that goes into it when it all plays out. I think the show is solely about a singing competition – to make it about something it’s not kind of chills the producers,” Nick adds.

“If you want to know who is a major diva it is Nicki Minaj,” a source close to American Idol told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. ”She is a major handful and a complete pain.” “Everyone is a fan of Mariah and completely on her side, and if Nicki Minaj continues to make things be such an issue, they would be happy for her to be fired,” our source continues.

Furthermore, American Idol Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe spoke to HollwoodLife.com exclusively about the on set drama. “The fact is, there will be such a very good American Idol that there will be differences of opinions,” he said. “And that is part of it.”

There was a very heated, intense argument towards the end of the day after a contestant did a little bit of a performance in the room. Keith [Urban] was sitting there, Randy [Jackson] was sitting there. Of course, Nicki and Mariah both there. I was outside. I was outside with the contestant’s family at the time. Both of these judges, as I have said before, come with different perspective.

And, so, yeah, it was heated. It did go too far, to the point where the producers said with just a few more contestants left, ‘Let’s call it a day.’ And, [they] called a ‘wrap’. So, today [October 3] is a second day of auditions in Charlotte, with that panel. And when you look at what the producers and Fox put together for this season, both of them, all of them, the four of them are essential components to what makes up the entire sum of the panel and provides that different perspective and that interesting point of view.

Nicki’s got a specific perspective about what’s playing and hot on the chart right now. Mariah has got that iconic experience and that legend status, being one of the greatest singers alive. And, of course, Keith and Randy provide their different perspective. But, you know when you put Nicki and Mariah and Keith and Randy together that you’re going to have different opinions, which is fantastic.

Okay so yesterday TMZ posted a video of an altercation between Nicki Minaj & Mariah during an audition for American Idol, you can see the video here, and I didn't want to post my opinion on this because I was wondering if this was staged or not. TMZ went as far as saying Minaj threatened Mariah, but Nigel Lythgoe, producer of AI, denied at least this rumor.
I still don't know if the atlercation was real or staged but my opinion is AI doesn't need Nicki Minaj, and it's going to be tough to watch AI if she's causing problems week after week, so yeah, I hope she comes back on Earth and realizes she's dealing with music royalty here, not just some stupid new wannabe singer. A little bit of respect would be nice, even she can't stand Mariah she could at least remain polite!

It’s official: American Idol is adding new judges from the worlds of country music and hip hop.

Fox announced Sunday that 44-year-old Aussie singer Keith Urban and colorful 29-year-old rapper Nicki Minaj will sit with pop diva Mariah Carey at the season 12 judges table of the reality hit, along with returning judge Randy Jackson. The confirmation settles months of behind-the-scenes reports and speculation about the show’s panel that saw singers such as Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Nick Jonas, Adam Lambert and Kanye West floated as possible judges.

Taking over “American Idol” was just the beginning of Mariah Carey’s career comeback. On Wednesday, the multi-platinum singer will take part in an hour long pre-game performance as part of the 2012 NFL kickoff.

Mariah Carey’s performance is part of a historic event for the NFL as they celebrate the 10th anniversary of the NFL Kickoff event and honor the reigning Superbowl champion New York Giants.

American Idol’s newest judge will perform at 30 Rockefeller Center on an outdoor stage constructed specifically for the event. While Mariah Carey has not released a new record since 2009, with 18 number 1 singles she is still on the charts.
Among the five songs Carey will perform at the Kickoff is her latest single “Triumphant (Get 'Em)” off her upcoming album that is being released sometime next year.

Just last week Carey took to her twitter account asking her fans what other songs they’d like to hear. “…I'm doing 5 songs at the NFL show.. What do you reaaally wanna hear FOR THE NOSTALGIA!!!!”

In July the veteran singer finalized a deal to join the popular singing show “American Idol.” FOX Entertainment president Kevin Reilly was overjoyed with the newest addition to the judging panel.

"I think it's the biggest recording artist that any of these shows have ever had. It’s an artist that many contestants have tried to emulate, have tried to sing [her] songs, have tried to hit the notes. Because [the deal] really only concluded hours ago, our new judge couldn’t be with us," he added.
"I am so excited to be joining ‘Idol,’" Carey said, according to THR. "I can't wait to get started.”

Mariah Carey will be honored as a BMI Icon at the BMI Urban Awards, scheduled for Friday, September 7 at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills.

Mariah Carey will join a group that includes the Jacksons, Snoop Dogg, George Clinton, James Brown, Isaac Hayes, Little Richard, Al Green, the Bee Gees, Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton -- selected because of their "unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers."

Over the years, Carey has co-written most of her biggest hits, a long list that includes 30 BMI Urban and Pop Award-winning songs such as "Always Be My Baby," "Hero," "Fantasy," "Vision of Love," "Emotions," "Shake It Off," "We Belong Together," "One Sweet Day," "I Don't Wanna Cry," "Dreamlover" and "All I Want for Christmas is You." A whopping 17 of her songs have amassed more than 1 million performances each, including "Always Be My Baby," "Dreamlover" and "Hero," which have each earned more than 3 million performances.

Carey has scored more No. 1 singles than any other solo artist in history -- and is second only to the Beatles in the all-time list -- and holds the record for the female songwriter with the most Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles in the rock era, totaling 18.

On March 1, just 10 months after giving birth to twins Moroccan and Monroe, a soulful and slender Carey returned to the stage with a 40-minute set at New York's Gotham Hall that included "Always Be My Baby," "We Belong Together," "I'll Be There" and "Obsessed." She released The Essential Mariah Carey on May 8 and is currently in the studio, writing and recording her next album for Island Def Jam. She is also rumored to be in "serious talks" to become a judge on "American Idol."
